Duo basse-batterie à la discographie déjà prolifique –deux EP, deux Live, un album-, GATECHIEN décroche la timbale en s’attachant les services de TED NICELEY, producteur de Fugazi, Jawbox ou encore Noir Désir, pour enregistrer “4”, son deuxième effort studio à La Nef (Angoulême) en janvier 2008. Les 12 titres puissants, mélancoliques, mélodiques et rageurs sont mixés à New York City par Eli Janney -bassiste de Girls Against Boys-, séduit par l’univers du groupe. Les 2 énergumènes se rencontrent à Cognac et mettent en place ce duo énergique basse-batterie-chant-cris, véritable ovni de la scène indépendante française. Deux maxi atterrissent sur nos platines en 2003 et 2004 et font tout de suite mouche, surprenant tout le monde de par l’ extravagance et la créativité déployées. Un chant à l’instinct, un jeu de basse des plus virtuoses et une batterie puissante et groovy font de GATECHIEN un groupe 200% « in your face », souvent comparé à Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, Shellac ou Nirvana. À partir de là, tout s’enchaîne à grande vitesse : plus de 200 concerts dans toute l’Europe (Angleterre, Allemagne, Belgique, Danemark, Ecosse, Espagne, France, Hollande, Italie,...) et un premier album enregistré fin 2005 par Michel Toledo permettent désormais de situer GATECHIEN –en fait le nom d’un bled en campagne cognaçaise- sur la carte du rock indépendant. Le groupe est maintenant prêt à en découdre sur scène, en sueur en émotion, en décibels et en passion.
