PNEU (FR) MATH ROCK / NOISE
Pneu

"Atypical." Yes, Pneu is atypical because their style is more (watch out) noisy experimental free jazz math rock. Hailing from Tours, the duo of JB (on drums and screams) and Jay (on guitar) are two peerless musicians. They have occasionally shared the stage with Marvin, Electric Electric, and Papier Tigre (which resulted in a split release), as well as Pay Day and Charogne Stone. They also collaborated with Kathoon, Norman Bambi, and O.Lamm for a two-week residency, culminating in an exceptional cine-concert; all organized by Travaux Publics, the label that notably produced the first Boogers album.
In 2008, they released Pince Monseigneur on Head Records in both vinyl and CD formats—an album packed with mathematical formulas, notes, and short yet devastating songs. Furthermore, their sound is unmistakable: Jay uses massive Marshall and ENGL stacks with very few effects, while Jean-Baptiste plays a fairly simple, beat-up drum kit with cracked cymbals and no small or medium toms (and he generally performs barefoot on stage).

USA Nails

London noise-rock quartet USA Nails have announced their upcoming album ‘Feel Worse’, out March 22nd 2024. It’s the first album on their new label One Little Independent Records (home to anarcho-punk bands both old and new; Crass, Bad Breeding and more). The band have forged a considerable reputation since their formation in 2013 from their South London base, comprising of members of Kong, Future Of The Left, Blacklisters, Death Pedals and Silent Front.
‘Feel Worse’ explores schadenfreude; the pleasure derived from another person's misfortune. With this, they use new material to attack austerity and UK authoritarianism, consumer culture (particularly the consumption of quick fix reality TV and hyper-capitalist agendas), youth culture and bullying, and more. They do so with their intense and unmistakable brand of abrasive, chaotic post-hardcore. There’s a raw and uncompromising energy to USA Nails, and ‘Feel Worse’ is their most powerful and vital album to date.

AAA Gripper

Post Trash: “a dextrous and excitng take on hypnotic post-hardcore with krautrock inclinations”
AAA Gripper have seemingly dropped out of nowhere but the story goes back. The idea was conjured in the summer of 2023 at the first Wrong Speed Records festival in the town of Glastonbury. Inspired by a weekend of radical sounds and fine company a decision was made - 'let's try something'.
We Invented Work For The Common Good is a deep dive into the world of the working person. How we end up. Why we climb onto the conveyer belt and never get off. The front cover is one of many of the same photo taken every day, on the walk to work, the dark mills looming - KEEP THEM BUSY, THEY WON'T RISE UP.
Music is therapy. They think it's part of the bread and circuses. We know it's armour. We know it's weaponry.
